Welcome to our Year 1 Curriculum area.
Here you will find out about the topics we will be learning about this year.
Autumn
Bright lights, big city
This topic teaches children about the physical and human characteristics of the United Kingdom, including a detailed exploration of the characteristics and features of the capital city. Children will also learn about The Great Fire of London, how it started and how it effected London.
Moon Zoom
In this Science topic, children develop their knowledge of technology, space and materials. Children will learn how to design and make model spaceships, considering the properties of materials. They might even meet an alien!
Spring
All creatures great and small
In this Geography topic, children will be developing map skills and learning about different animals and how they are cared for. Look out for the big cats!
Memory Box
In this History topic, children learn about changes over time, family and community. This topic develops children’s knowledge and appreciation of local history, special memories, customs and traditions, and growing up. What is your favourite memory?
Summer
Dinosaur Planet
In this roaring History topic, children will develop knowledge of prehistory. Children will learn about dinosaurs and fossils, and the amazing discoveries of palaeontologists.
Splendid Skies
Children will develop their knowledge of the weather and seasonal changes. Children will observe and identify plants and how they grow. Get your walking boots on!
